In addition to our prior obligations, the tenant’s Teams chat messages (including channel messages, meeting notes, private messages and accompanying photos) and meeting recordings will be kept at rest in nearby data centre regions.

Expanded promises to establish an EU Data Boundary for Microsoft Cloud were also made public by Microsoft in 2021. With this promise, Microsoft agreed to process and store customer data from the commercial and public sectors of the European Union within the EU. Add-on for Microsoft 365 Advanced Data Residency
A new Microsoft 365 Advanced Data Residency add-on that will increase the obligations for client data storage at rest is also being introduced. To help regulated businesses and the public sector customers of Microsoft 365 comply with data residency laws, regulations, and industry standards, the Advanced Data Residency add-on will be made available beginning in November 2022.
It will provide customers with premium services and data storage at rest commitments for expanded workloads such as Microsoft Defender for Office Plan, Exchange Online Protection, Microsoft Viva Connections, Office for the Web, Microsoft Viva Topics, and Microsoft Purview suite components. Additionally, the add-on provides clients who qualify for expedited migration incentives for moving their Microsoft 365 tenants into our regional data centre locations.
